CST is a light touch, very gentle, hands-on therapy. Because of the gentle nature of CST and as there is no manipulation or strain put on the body, it is suitable for all ages. It does not involve manipulation and is not a massage.
The cranio sacral system consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord as well as the bones to which the membranes attach. These membranes extend from the bones of the skull, face and mouth (which make up the cranium) down the spine to the sacrum or tailbone area and everything in between.
By evaluating the rhythm throughout the body created by the production and reabsorption of cerebrospinal fluid, the therapist is able to locate any restrictions which may be held. By using release techniques and following the body’s response, the therapist assists the body to release restrictions which may be held. By releasing these restrictions this allows for better flow of cranio sacral fluid and tissue movement.
